Our infrastructure equity funds have been the cornerstone of GIP’s business since our founding in 2006.

Our global equity funds apply the Firm’s tried and tested approach to investing in core and core-plus infrastructure opportunities, predominantly in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (“OECD”) countries.

GIP Credit makes non-common equity investments, with the ability to transact across multiple entry points in the capital structure. Our strategy focuses on the Energy, Transport, Digital Infrastructure and Water and Waste management sectors, along with other industries or projects with infrastructure characteristics.

GIP Credit leverages the broader GIP platform, creating a symbiotic relationship to source, diligence and structure bilaterally originated credit opportunities where we can act as the sole, lead or anchor investor.

GIP has developed a world class reputation as a firm that is able to work successfully with large industrial partners.

Thus, we are often able to access transactions that are not typically available to other financial investors or investors unable to commit substantial equity to individual opportunities. We believe competition for the types of transactions GIP targets is often limited for several key reasons, including: (i) these transactions are usually complicated; (ii) they typically require very substantial equity commitments; and (iii) given the importance of the asset to the industrial partner, it is critical to have a partner with a strong track record of similar partnerships and who is able to deliver value to the asset and form a productive partnership.

Moreover, we believe GIP’s in-depth knowledge of, and extensive relationships in, the industry sectors we focus on are critical to our ability to originate proprietary transactions. This knowledge provides insights into the trends and developments that create investment opportunities and motivate potential sellers and joint venture partners. In addition, our relationships with significant industry participants, together with our track record of adding value to our portfolio companies and our ability to deploy significant amounts of capital, have often made GIP a preferred partner or owner of strategic infrastructure assets. Case Studies

Gatwick Airport

Since it acquired a majority stake in 2009, Global Infrastructure Partners increased the capacity at Gatwick Airport in the UK from 32.4 million passengers per year to 46.6 million passengers per year (pre-COVID).

GIP transformed the way the airport operates in order to improve the travel experience for passengers. GIP focused on operational improvements, including to the transit to and from the airport, reducing the time spent in lines and ultimately generating a meaningful increase in the number of plane movements per hour.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is a strategically important sector for Global Infrastructure Partners. GIP has built a substantial renewables platform over the past 15 years that includes three significant companies spanning the Americas and Asia-Pacific regions, powerful examples of the firm’s commitment to the energy transition. In the U.S., GIP helped Clearway scale from 5,000 MW of green power in 2018 to over 30,000 today. In Asia, GIP integrated separate companies into Vena, connecting a new solar asset every six weeks from 2018 through 2024.
